Labiaplasty is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure typically performed under local anesthesia. If you are already having other procedures done under general anesthesia, Dr. Rodriguez can easily perform a labiaplasty at the same time.

The labia majora are the larger “outer lips” of the vulva. The labia minora are the “inner lips” that are typically thinner and more delicate. The labia minora connect at the front with the clitoral hood, a thin layer of skin that protects the clitoris. If needed, the labia majora, labia minora, and/or the clitoral hood can be treated as part of a labiaplasty procedure. Most patients can return to light activities within a few days, but full recovery typically takes four to six weeks. Swelling and discomfort are common during the first week, and strenuous activities should be avoided for at least two weeks.

Labiaplasty is most frequently performed under local anesthesia. While the injection of the numbing medication can be uncomfortable at first, it helps prevent pain throughout the procedure. Reduction of the labia majora and/or minora can potentially help by addressing any skin that is pulled or pinched during intercourse, but labiaplasty alone does not improve orgasms. While the labia majora and/or minora are reduced with labiaplasty, the clitoris (which is densely packed with sensitive nerves for sexual function) remains unchanged. In some cases, a clitoral hood reduction can help with orgasms if the clitoral hood is overly elongated.
