What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a personalized surgical plan that may include breast enhancement, abdominal contouring, liposuction, and vaginal rejuvenation. The goal is to reverse common post-pregnancy changes such as breast deflation, loose skin, diastasis recti, stretched labial tissues, and isolated fat deposits.

Dr. Rodriguez designs each plan around your unique anatomy and concerns to create natural-looking, harmonious results.

Who’s a Good Mommy Makeover Candidate?

You may be a candidate for a mommy makeover with Dr. Rodriguez if you are bothered by:

  • Saggy, drooping, or deflated breasts
  • Overly large breasts that cause discomfort
  • Loose abdominal skin or extra folds
  • Diastasis recti
  • Vaginal self-consciousness or discomfort

Ideal candidates should be nonsmokers who are in good overall health and at a healthy, stable weight.

What’s Included in a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover typically includes three procedures addressing the breast, abdomen and body contouring. Your chosen combination of procedures depends on your unique concerns and needs, but common procedures include:

Breast Augmentation

This procedure addresses volume loss and disproportionate breasts, a common occurrence after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr. Rodriguez restores your breasts using implants or subtle breast augmentation with fat grafting techniques. Alternatively, some women opt for a breast reduction to reduce overly large breasts that cause discomfort.

Breast Lift

The breast skin and underlying tissue, including the parenchyma, can undergo significant changes after pregnancy or breastfeeding, causing the breasts to droop. A breast lift or breast lift with implants can restore youthful breast perkiness.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) contours the abdomen by removing loose, excess skin and defining the waistline. It also tightens the abdominal wall to treat diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles). It’s often paired with liposuction to target stubborn fat deposits to restore a sleeker silhouette.

Labiaplasty

The labia majora (outer lips) and labia minora (inner lips) can become elongated and look deflated after pregnancy or childbirth, causing discomfort when wearing certain clothing styles, using tampons, and with sexual activity. Labiaplasty offers vaginal rejuvenation by smoothing and tightening this area, restoring comfort and confidence.

Skin Tightening

Advanced nonsurgical skin tightening solutions, such as QuantumRF, may help areas of slightly loose skin while avoiding additional scars. They’re often recommended to further optimize your surgical mommy makeover results.

What Is Your Accelerated Mommy Makeover Recovery Timeline Like?

Dr. Rodriguez’s refined surgical techniques and enhanced recovery protocols help minimize tissue trauma, swelling, and downtime so you can return to your routine more quickly and comfortably.

While mommy makeover recovery varies based on the procedures performed, most women experience these healing milestones:

First 24 hours:

You will need a caregiver at home. Gentle walking every few hours helps reduce the risk of blood clots.

First 2 weeks:

No lifting over 5 pounds, including children. You will need extra childcare support.

Around 2 weeks:

Many patients return to desk work.

Around 6 weeks:

Gradual return to exercise.

After a tummy tuck:

Avoid situps and crunches for 3 months.

Dr. Rodriguez typically recommends Journavx® (suzetrigine), a non-opioid pain medication that allows for a narcotic-free recovery. Compression garments help minimize swelling and support the healing process. Dr. Rodriguez and her caring team provide detailed postoperative instructions, follow-up care, and ongoing support to ensure a smooth recovery and long-lasting results.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

How soon after giving birth can you have a mommy makeover?

After giving birth, you should wait about 6 to 12 months before having a mommy makeover. This allows your body time to recover and for the tissues to tighten back up as much as possible. Dr. Rodriguez recommends waiting until you have completed your family before considering a mommy makeover. If you get pregnant again after having breast surgery or a tummy tuck, the results can be “undone.”

Is there a weight requirement?

While Dr. Rodriguez does not have a strict weight or BMI requirement for a mommy makeover, she generally prefers that your BMI be under 35 for an elective surgery and under 32 for a tummy tuck. She considers each patient’s specific situation, body habitus, and weight distribution and makes a recommendation accordingly.

To achieve the best possible result, you should be at a healthy weight and have reached your goal weight before undergoing surgery. Not only does this reduce your risks associated with having anesthesia, but it also gives you a better result because the amount of internal (visceral) fat is reduced.

Do I need a mini vs. full tummy tuck?

The choice between a mini and a full tummy tuck depends on the amount and location of excess skin and whether abdominal muscle repair is needed. Dr. Rodriguez will conduct a thorough physical assessment during your private consultation to make the best recommendation for your body and goals.

She may recommend a mini tummy tuck if you have very minimal loose skin and a belly button that is located higher up on the abdomen. If you require significant skin removal and abdominal muscle repair, a full tummy tuck is a more suitable approach.

What are mommy makeover scars like?

All surgical procedures leave a scar, but Dr. Rodriguez takes great care to ensure incisions are placed in discreet, natural folds so they remain well-concealed by clothing, lingerie, or swimwear. Her precise mommy makeover techniques and advanced scar management protocols, including the use of Sylke®, Brijjit®, and Biocorneum®, help support smooth healing and minimize visibility. Over time, most scars fade substantially and become barely noticeable.
