Low brows can cause your eyes to look tired, angry, or older than your actual age. They can also feel heavy, requiring you to tense your forehead muscle and wrinkle your forehead skin to try and raise your brows up into good position. This creates deeper wrinkles in the forehead over time and can even contribute to tension headaches. What is aBrow Lift?
A brow lift is surgical procedure that repositions the eyebrows to a higher and more youthful position.
Due to loosening of the skin and stretching of the forehead muscle, the brow position can lower over time. When brows droop (brow ptosis), they can feel heavy on your eyelids. This can cause you to tense your forehead muscle and wrinkle your forehead skin to try and raise your brows up into good position. This creates deeper wrinkles in the forehead over time and can even contribute to tension headaches.
Some patients that need a brow lift may not even notice that their brow position is too low. Instead, they first notice that their upper eyelids have extra, loose skin. This is a perfect example of the importance of meeting with Dr. Rodriguez in person so that she can perform a thorough and complete facial analysis. The issue may not be the upper eyelids themselves but rather the brow position. If the brow position is addressed by lifting it up to the proper location, then the upper eyelid skin may stretch and smooth out. Once the weight of the low brows is lifted, you may notice that the upper eyelids may not need any change at all!
A brow lift is often combined with other procedures, including eyelid surgery, facelift, and necklift. In fact, Dr. Rodriguez often recommends combining these types of procedures to create a cohesive, natural-appearing change to the entire facial region.
How is a Brow Liftperformed?
A brow lift is done under general anesthesia and there are a variety of techniques available. Depending on your forehead anatomy and hair pattern, Dr. Rodriguez will recommend a brow lift technique that is best suited for you. Dr. Rodriguez may recommend an endoscopic brow lift which requires several small incisions, hidden in the hair of the scalp. Through these small incisions, an endoscope (small camera) is used to help safely release the attachments of the eyebrows to the underlying bone. The eyebrows are then lifted into a higher position and secured. All the incisions are carefully sutured closed.

Borw LiftRecovery
After surgery, you may have some bruising and swelling which can be minimized by sleeping with your head propped up on pillows. Reduced sensation at the scalp may be present but typically resolves with time. Sutures are removed about 10-14 days after surgery. The recovery process typically takes about two weeks, and you can resume all exercise and activity by six weeks after surgery. Most patients can return to work around two weeks after a brow lift surgery.
Brow LiftResults
For the endoscopic brow lift technique, the scars are very short and relatively hidden in the hair of the scalp. You can optimize your scar appearance by protecting it from the sun with a loose-fitting hat, particularly in the early post-operative period. After a brow lift, your brows will look more youthful and refreshed, and this often makes the eyes themselves look more open and reduces the hooded appearance at the upper eyelids.
