What is aRhinoplasty?
If you have trouble breathing through the nose due to a deviated septum, a septoplasty can be performed at the same time to help improve nasal breathing.
A rhinoplasty is frequently combined with other surgeries. To improve the overall facial profile, a rhinoplasty is often combined with a chin augmentation.
How is a Rhinoplastyperformed?
A rhinoplasty is done under general anesthesia, using a small incision hidden under the nose at the columella (the skin between the nostrils). The specific steps and strategies for achieving the goals of your rhinoplasty are largely planned out before the surgery. The cartilage of the nose is re-sculpted and the bones of the nose often re-positioned to help achieve these goals. If the septum is deviated, this is also straightened to improve breathing and symmetry. Once the foundation of the nose is carefully adjusted, the skin is re-draped and carefully stitched closed.

A rhinoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure. During surgery, a nasal splint is typically placed on the outside and/or inside of the nose. Splints are often removed within a week of surgery. To minimize bruising and swelling, Dr. Rodriguez injects a special medication, called tranexamic acid along the nasal skin before the surgery. If any bruising is present, this should resolve within 1-2 weeks after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work about 1-2 weeks after surgery and resume exercise around 4-6 weeks after surgery. For 2 months after surgery, you should avoid blowing or rubbing your nose.
